CRISP IMAGING UPDATE

Crisp Imaging sent me all the editions that my illustrations for them come in! The medium sized ones in center (in b/w and with color overlays) are on hard, solid stock with cork backing (the back of one is standing). The client sent me a card saying that I was "able to illustrate an industry that a lot of people had a hard time learning about in a super intense way. You're one in a million."

MY FIRST RICHIE

My first professional script; never saw it until a few seconds ago! 40 years ago, bejabbers. Thanks to my Facebook Friend, Antonio Marques!! From RICHIE RICH & DOLLAR THE DOG #11 (Dec. 1979).
With this first job and the gallery show of today's work both posted here,  I feel like my blog inadvertently implies that I am reaching the twilight of my years.

CHEMICALIA

Wonderful drawing by ChemicalAlia. Well drawn and a sense of humor. https://www.deviantart.com/chemicalalia

FRAGMENTS OF MOMENTS IN TIME

From a blog in 2014. Analyzing single frames of SONIC?? Well...uh...thanks!!
"Welcome once again to the Hall Of Frame, where we look at our favorite frames from some of the craziest cartoons. Today, we're going to tackle another YTP favorite, that being Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog. This is perhaps the third most used YTP source in the history of the genre, and it's very easy to see why. Apart from it's sense of humor that combines most of the slapstick of the Looney Tunes with the typical Saturday morning cartoon self-awarness, it's animation style is notable for how unconventional it is compared to others. With a cheap looking style and designs, AoTSH manages to produce a variety of wonderful and expressive visual gags. They capture the character's traits perfectly, with Sonic's fast movement and Robotnik's hammy ego. It never loses sight of the fact it is a cartoon and uses all the opportunities it can to express the surreal nature that lies in a world of pure nonsense. Yes, for such a simple show, AoTSH can bring about some truly great frames worth to be talked about. And we're here to talk about them."

"In the end I feel like this is one of the hidden gems that fulfill's Milton Knight's philosophy when drawing Robotnik: he's not necessarily drawn well, but he's most certainly drawn expressively, and that's what counts."

FLASHES FROM THE PAST!

A Twitter member isolated some of my drawings from the Boop comic. (Written by Joshua Quagmire, inked by Leslie Cabarga.)

From You-Know-What, cel setup now sold. No doubt courtesy of Ralph. Don't ask me why COOL WORLD was so bad. I know *that* it happened, not *why* it happened.

PICTURES FROM AN EXHIBITION

Well, the opening wasn't exactly bursting the rafters, but there was a steady stream of people who expressed fascination. "I am transfixed by this one", someone said about an abstract. Then the pair bantered about not paying this or that bill to buy it. Everyone that came had a different favorite, which is good. Means I'm not "bad" at anything I'm trying. Suddenly with the good lighting, my brush strokes made more sense. And the nudes met with a much more appreciative response than they did in L.A., where everyone was frightened or offended. It was a good night.

SHOWTIME...

The show is opening in three hours! It was even announced in The Herald Times. That I didn't angle for. This is the night of "Gallery Walk", the Fridays when interested parties jaunt from one gallery to the next.

Thanks Everyone for your support over this turbulent year.

THE SHOCK OF THE NEW

A friend, an elderly lady, stopped by and asked to see my work. She had never seen it before. I tried playing it safe first (I thought) and showed her the blues singer. It got a slightly bemused lost-for-words reaction. "Oh, my..." Then she saw others in the room. It was like Elmer Fudd's reaction to Bugs "throwing fits". "Oh my gwacious...Oh my..." She was able to take a little solace in the smiling girl against yellow. Then she asked about my cartoon/comic work. What I showed her was G-rated, but it was the same thing. "Oh, ooh..." We're still friends, but since I'm not trying for to flummox people (almost the opposite), it's a little saddening to get that reaction. I don' wanna scare people, I jus' wanna be friendly.

A cel I was mailed to sign, missing the mouth level. "Someone ought to SHOOT the fellows that make these cartoons!!"

UPDATE: Hey! Turns out Chris *had* Robotnik's mouth cel allll the time!

A MIDNITE lineup over the years. Someone noted that my own characters often go "off model" within the same story. I just do what I feel is appropriate. I never drew a model, so going "off model" is impossible.

Yours,
MK

AT PRESENT

A new painting.

Done with leftover paint at end of day.

I found the opening of PSYCHIATRICKS a bit bare of human expressions, so I reworked it.

Here's the gallery's first announcement of my show in October!
