New York 'takes' were intended to be Tex Avery 'takes', but they'd be on the screen about four times as long.
When a character's head stretched, what does it mean to you?
THE ISLAND FLING (1946)
SHAPE AHOY (1945)
CASPER TAKES A BOW WOW (1951)
CASPER COMES TO CLOWN(1951)

This was one of the things that made me a little less than satisfied with the Famous output. The extended period of time for the take drew too much attention to the take, and stepped on the joke.
Naturally, this is merely my opinion and read, and another person's reaction will most likely vary.
The holds on the takes got longer as the 1940s went on -- the timing on the takes from the 1942-45 period is actually pretty fast and similar to what was becoming the norm on the West Coast, and the 1946-48 period still has some decent reaction shots, but you can see the languid timing of the 1950s seeping in.
I like the slow ones myself. They're freaky funny.
That "Shape Ahoy" cartoon is hilarious! Olive Oil doing the back stroke is sooo good!
